MANOJ MANJARI SISHU BHAWAN, KEONJHAR.

          Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan, Keonjhar was established on 17th.May, 1973 in the wake of an unprecedented drought drought situation in Keonjhar District which left many children orphan and abandoned. With the help of District Administration and other philanthropic people/organizations both inside and outside the country this organization has been able to serve the society particularly in the field of child welfare. This premier welfare is an assured abode for shelter and rehabilitation of orphaned,abandoned and destitute children for last 27 years. The institution is named after RAJMATA of erstwhile Keonjhar Estate who had donated the land on which the Sishu Bhawan has come up. In recognition of MMBS!S services it has got NATIONAL AWARD in the year 1990.

          Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan is situated in the Headquarters of Keonjhar District Keonjhar town is located in a valley at the foot of mineral rich Gandhamardan hills, which stands magnificently to the West. It is above a height of 2000 ft. above the sea level and has a pleasant climate. Keonjhar is 225 Kms. away from StateCapital Bhubaneswar.

          Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan initially started as an orphanage to shelter the orphan and abandoned children. Subsequently, it had to expand its activities in the orphanage as well as outside. At present its activities are centered around at three places- MMSB The orphanage, agricultural training and schools for disabled children at Sidhamath at the outskirts of the town and Schools and Health Programme in the Harichandanpour Block.

  1. In the orphanage, there are two hostels one for the boys and the other for the girls.More than 100 children reside in the hostels.They are provided with all facilities and environment to have a normal children . Children below the age group of 5 years are accommodated in a special home called’HOME SWEET HOME’ under the care of trained Ayas. In the campous itself there is provision for education of children are provided with vocational training in tailing, music & dance, dairy, gardening etc. More than 350 children have been rehabilitated through adoption, marriage, employment and self-employment so far.

  2. An agricultural training center at Sidhamath at the outskirts of the Keonjhar town started functioning in the year 1979 with an aim to provide agricultural training to the grown/up boys. Nursery, grafting, horticultural plants, pisciculture etc. are also taken uip at this project. A school for Deaf & Dumb and another school for the Blind children are functioning in this campus with the assistance of State Government.

  3. Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan started Educational Sponsorrship Programme in the year 1982 with the assistance of Adoption Centre, Sweden and subsequently SIDA came forward to help for the project till 1997. Five schools were established under this programme and three were handed over to Govt. 1989. OnePrimary School at Saratpada and High School at Somagiri are still managed by the institution.

  4. To provide health services to tribal people, MMSB STARTED A MOBILE HEALTH PROGRAMME AROUND Somagiri area in HC Puri Block in the year 1977. Subsequently a full-fledged medical unit titled as ‘TRIBAL HEALTH CENTRE’ with 8 indoor beds started functioning from the year 1984. This health center has adopted 32 villages to provide health educartion, hygiene , environment, cleanliness etc. Lady health workers trained at THC are retained in each village. They also participarte in health programmes taken up by Govt. from time to time.

          Noble foster families for better care and education sponsor about 60 children of Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan. Assistance for providing education of primitive tribal children and physically disabled children would be of great help to the institution. It is appealed that generouds people would come forward to help for the above activities.
