Various measures have been taken to improve the condition of the existing roads and to construct new ones by different Government Departments and local bodies of the District. This has resulted in a rapid increase of the road mileage of the district. At present the length of the roads stands at about 2808 kms. The different categories of the roads are as follows.
Touching the district at Tinda near Mayurbhanj border, N.H.No.6 passes through Khereitangiri, Keonjhargarh, Suakati, Kanjipani and Jagamohanpur. Then the road leaves the district towards Pallahara in Angul district. The length of the road in the district is 101 kms. The N.H.6 meets the newly designated N.H.232 (Panikoili to Rajamunda) at Keonjhargarh. The N.H.232 starts at Jarda in Keonjhar district and ends at Guali near Barbil. The road facilitates transportation of mineral ores, forest and agricultural products of the District.
EXPRESS HIGHWAY NO- II (Joda Bemebari road) It starts from Joda and proceeds up to Bamebari through different mines. The road for the first 5 kms. is categorised as classified village road and for the rest 13 kms. as the Express Highway No.II. The expressway portion of the road is blacktopped.
MAJOR
DISTRICT ROADS i) ROAD NO- 85 (BARBIL NALDA ROAD) This road starts from the State Highway No.10 at Barbil and extends upto Singhbhum border via Nalda. This black-topped road is 7 kms in length. ii) ROAD NO- 10 (DHENKIKOTE PATNA ROAD) This road starts from State Highway No.11 at Dhenkikote and proceeds towards Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district via Patna and Saharapada. This is an all- weather road of 35 kms. out of which 19 kms. is metalled. iii) ROAD NO- 10-A (ANANDAPUR KARANJIA ROAD) Starting from the major district road No.73 at Anandapur, the Anandapur-Karanjia road runs for 12.1 km. in the district and then proceeds towards Karanjia of Mayurbhanj district. This is a metalled and fair weather road. iv) ROAD NO- 73 (ANANDAPUR BONTH ROAD) This road starts from State Highway No. II at Anandapur and runs towards Bhadrak border. This 18 kms. road is a black-topped and fair weather road. v) ROAD NO- 12-B (NARANPUR PANDAPADA ROAD) This road starts from the State Highway No.II at Naranpur and meets the Pandapada- Harichandanpur classified village road at Pandapada. This is a fair-weather road and is 16 kms. in length. vi) ROAD NO- 12-C (KUNAR BANSPAL ROAD) 16 kms in length, the Kunar-Banspal earthen and fair-weather road starts from N.H.No.6 at Kunar and leads to Banspal where it meets the Suakati- Banspal- Kadakala classified village road. vii) Champua Remuli Road (SH 11) 8 KM
OTHER
DISTRICT ROADS CHHENAPADI HADAGARH ROAD This is an all weather black-topped 16 kms. length road. This starts from major district road No.73 at Chhenapadi and connects Hadgarh. SATKUTUNIA-PATNA ROAD Another road from Satkutunia to Patna connects the State Highway No.11. Out of the total length of 60.8 kms. of the road, only one km. is black-topped. CLASSIFIED VILLAGE ROADS The following 21 roads with a total length of 515.30 Kms. Have been categorised as classified village roads.
